What is the main function of the European External Action Service (EEAS) in the context of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) of the European Union? The EEAS is responsible for negotiating exclusive international trade agreements on behalf of the European Commission, replacing Member States in these tasks. The EEAS has exclusive competence to adopt binding decisions on the deployment of EU military missions under the framework of the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP). The EEAS acts as the principal institution in charge of managing EU own resources and budget to finance defense operations in third countries. The EEAS works under the political direction of the High Representative to contribute coherence and coordination to the Union's international action.
